Investigation Questions:

1. Why is communication so important during an emergency? because everyone needs to be aware that a disaster is striking their community and needs to do everything to be ready for it. There are alot of different communications , for example : internet, cellphones, blackberries, radio, Televisions , iphones and many other electronics.
   
2. What forms of communication have been used during recent disasters e.g Hurricane Katrina, the Tsunami? i am not very sure but i am guessing that they must have used the radio, televisions, cellphones, text messaging, msn and the internet in general.
   
3. What essential information needs to be communicated during a disaster or emergency? the information that should be communicated in a disaster is that a disaster is coming or happening. or to be prepared and ready when the disaster comes.
   
4. What information can be created before the emergency? What information needs to be communicated during the emergency? before the emergency they could make an internet site about the emergency and people from around the world could post in it if they had a similar emergency and how the survived it. during the emergency they could make another website for people to post what the did in the disaster.
   
5. What hardware and software is required to be able to communicate online?
   

Hard wares:

- mobile phones/i phones- can help us by calling people we know and tell them a warning that a disaster is coming

- computer/blackberry phones - communicate with people using messenger or other chatting sites. you can also research on the disaster coming and know more about it and how to keep safe

television/ radio- news can tell us about any disaster coming


Guiding Questions:


A. How can I make use of established and emerging WWW tools to support online publication?

we can use Microsoft word, publisher and other Microsoft tools. we can also post information and pictures on the internet sites or make a website and write information and put pictures. we can also put posts on an online newspaper.

b. What are the best tools to use for effective communication online?

I think that the best tool to have effective information would be newspapers or television because these are the items people around the whole world listen to and understand.

C. How can the Internet be used to help a community prepare for and survive a disaster?

the internet could be used by hot mail or online newspapers. also, famous websites like google, facebook , youtube and other internet websites.

Communication and the Internet:

• Which communication forms are synchronous? the communications that are synchronous are MSN messenger, telephone calls and other direct talks.
  

• Which ones are asynchronous? the communications that are asynchronous are telephone text messages , emails and other indirect talks.
  

• What type of information would be conveyed by each form? the information that would be coveyed are war, natural disasters, bombings and so on.
• What is needed in hardware and software for each?

Evaluation

What worked well?

There was a couple of things that worked well in almost all stages of the design cycle.

I think that the investigation was the easiest part of the project because all what we had to do is reasearch. It was also a fun part of the project because we got to learn new types of robots and what they did, and the new robot technology. The create stage was obviously the funest part of the project, because we actually built the robot. The only thing that worked well was the building part, where we used the lego.

What didn't work well?

In the project nothing did go bad in the investigate or design stage. there was minor problems in the create cycle. tjhe problems were using the software robolab which did not work. also , we weren't able to program the robot by giving it instructions using win logo.

How can improve it?

I could improve this project in many different ways. One way I could improve mu listening skills awhich i think is the poorest skill i have. other than that i think the project was great and it was a great experience learining about all the new kinds of robots and building them.

Robot investigation

we are doing a robot using the design cycle. we just finished the first part of the design cycle which is "investigate". we wrote our own defenition of a robot and an internet defenition . we also defined sensoors, prosesors, actuators aned power. we did examples for each of them and pictures. in another page, we gave robot rules and why we need robot rules. then, we did another page with the advantages and disadvantages of robots. finally, we did another page with what could the robot do and we answered the question how are we going to give the instruction.

What i did this summer?

this summer i went to thailand with my family . i went to bangkok first and stayed in a hotal called Grand tower Inn.everyday we went shopping everyday and sometimes we went to attraction parks. then we went to Phuket ,a small island in the south of Thailand.

Evaluation

the first idea that came to our minds was the nintendo DS. then we changed it to the ipod touch.my partner and i were very confiedent of our final presentation , so we were part of the first group to go. the animoto was grreat and everybody liked uit. we had some problems with the voice in the voicethread video, but the rest was fine.we could improve the presentation by making our voices clearer and louder and we could talk more about the ipod touch and how could we use it in the classroom. i could tell the students of grade 5 that this project was great fun because we learnt alot about new video makers and it really fun making the videos.

This is my Voicethread. we put ten pictures. In this video, we did not put any music we only used our voice.

My Animoto

This is my animoto. we put thirteen pictures and put a song called a night in the park bu John Kelley.

our work so far

untill, now our week plan is done. as you can see on the left. in the first week we will collect as much images as we can so that it will fot for the animoto and voice thread. on the second week , we will be editing the images. in week 3, we will be creating our first animoto. in week 4, we will creat our voicethread, upload all images and write the script. in week 5 , we will start our evaluation and week 6 , we will finish it up.

Design

we could use an ipod touch science. instead of going to the computer lab trying to log on to the internet we could just log on to the internet on our iphones. it will be preferable for every student to have one. it will really improve the lesson because it will save time beecause the teacher will not have to go around trying to book a computer lab.

investigate

our class is starting a new unit called newtech. in my group,( me and haya) we are doing about the ipod touch. we can use it to listen to music, watch a movie or even log on to the internet. you can buy it in any hardware shop you can even buy it online threw Amazon.com.
last years model, was the nano ipod.
i am not sure how much it costs in qr but in pounds, it is 199 and gose up to 323 pounds. it is about 152 pounds for an 8gb ipod. we could use it in school because it has the internet. it is much easier to use and it is handheld.

In the winter break i got a new mobile. my old one was soaked in my bag. it was a motorola.

THE TECHNOLODGY:


My mother got a new mobile of the brand Nokia which also can also be use as a computer .it is an n82. It has a camera and if you flip it around it is computer. I think it is a great phone. it was a present from my dad for the winter break and for the new year.
